  • State Board of Workers’ Compensation’s Annual Education Conference

    Alissa Atkins co-moderated “Addressing Violence in the Workplace” with Bill Anderson at the State Board’s 2026 Annual Educational Conference in Alpharetta. While a topic that many of us do not want to think about, unfortunately violence in the workplace has become an all-too-common reality that businesses cannot ignore. Officer Hal Schoffeill of the Alpharetta Police Department provided important, practical information on preventative measures as well as life saving tips if such an event at work occurs, which led to the broader discussion of legal implications and compensability questions which arise out of these unfortunate events.


  • Navigating the Fee Schedule

    Atkins David Smith partner Jennifer Smith recently gave a presentation to Judges, attorneys, and other members of the Worker’s Compensation Section of the Atlanta Bar Association on “Navigating the Fee Schedule.” With co-presenter Karen Lowell from Gerber & Elkins, Jennifer discussed important aspects of the fee schedule including how attorneys can utilize it to project future medical costs in their cases as well as Board rules on medical bill payments and disputes. The presentation was very well received and interactive, resulting in an informed discussion about some of the common pitfalls attorneys and providers alike run into while navigating the fee schedule.
